Wedded Bliss: Mr. and Mrs. Kurlin | Kansas City Photographer | The Landmark, AZ Wedding Venue
Featured on the blog today is Mr. and Mrs. Kurlin and their elegant wedding day! I've been wanting to write about this wedding ever since it happened last March and I'm so excited to finally make it happen this morning! It's actually coming about on my todo list at the perfect time in my life, and you'll understand why in a minute.
I first met Mallory and Jordan when they attended another wedding I shot in AZ (Shout out to The Mata's) and Mallory took my card to talk about graduation portraits. When she called to set up her session, she mentioned that she was in the market for an engagement/wedding photographer as well. So we planned the graduation session with a coffee date afterwards so I could go over my packages with her and see if we'd be a good fit. As soon as we met, we clicked. Our styles lined up, the light was perfect, we laughed and talked the whole time, it was an amazing session! So walking into the coffee shop I was super hopeful we would click regarding her wedding as well. But one thing had me really anxious: We were moving. She had contacted me right around the time we made the official decision to move to Texas, so I had to let her know I wouldn't be a local photographer by the time her wedding came around. I was so nervous she wouldn't think the travel fee would be worth it or it would be a hassle to not have her photographer in the state. But she was so sweet about everything and took all of the information with her to talk over with Jordan, so all I could do was wait. When the email came that they wanted to hire me despite all of the transition, I'm pretty sure I danced around my office!
We stayed in contact as Mallory kept me in the loop on all of her wedding developments (I love the details!) and we even got to shoot their engagement photos on one of my AZ trips after I had moved. Our friendship grew and by the time the wedding came, I was so excited to see them and celebrate with them!
Now for the wedding: It was everything I'd been looking forward to and more. Mallory has a designers eye and did such an amazing job with all of the details and decor. There was no shortage of beautiful things to photograph all around her venue and every one had a personal touch! But beyond all of that, it was incredible to capture everyone's emotion and excitement for the day. Mallory and Jordan are so loved by their friends and family and it was so apparent through out the wedding. I can't imagine anyone not loving this sweet couple. They each have true hearts of gold that compliment each other in a way that creates authentic and unconditional love that overflows to everyone around them. It's not very easy to convey with words, but once you've met them, you get it. I'm so thankful we developed the connection that we did, as it helped them feel comfortable with me, really focus on their day, and let their true nature seep into every moment of laughter, happy tear, and sweet kiss. Then that translated into beautiful photos of REAL moments that can help then relive that day, and all of it's joy, for the rest of their lives.
And to think, I was so nervous heading into that coffee shop thinking "She may not think it's worth it." But she did, and photographing their wedding was one of my highlights of 2017. Now, as I'm heading into a new adventure moving from Texas to Missouri, I have so much more confidence in my mission to find clients who value me, my craft, and a real connection. That's what makes EffJay Photography Weddings what they are, and I'm so excited to see what other amazing couples love stories I get to play a part in next!
But keep scrolling to see just just a few of my favorite details and moments from this pivotal wedding in my career, the one that solidified my mission <3.
